What is teeth whitening?

The treatment of tooth whitening, also called “tooth whitening” is a particularly popular aesthetic treatment for improving your smile. It is a special technique which consists in lightening the internal color of the teeth in order to restore them to a beautiful appearance and a more attractive shine.

How does teeth whitening work?

This cosmetic dental treatment takes place over one to two sessions which last between 30 and 60 minutes. Here is the procedure for tooth whitening in our office: we start by carefully placing protection on your gums so that they are not affected by the whitening product. When all of this is ready, we apply the whitening gel to your tooth enamel. In some cases, it is possible to achieve tooth whitening using an ultraviolet lamp.

For this cosmetic treatment, we generally offer a combination of two techniques: one or two chairside sessions, followed by outpatient treatment at your home.

After tooth whitening, you may feel a transient sensitivity in your teeth. This phase lasts only 48 hours. To mitigate this side effect, we recommend that you use fluoride toothpaste.

What are the contraindications after this dental aesthetic treatment?

During the first weeks after the installation of your teeth whitening, we do not recommend that you consume certain foods and drinks. In fact, avoid coloring foods and drinks such as red fruits, beets, spinach, tobacco, tea, coffee, red wine…. The risk of discoloration on your very recent whitening is significant during this time and could deteriorate.
